WASHINGTON, March 7 (UPI) --
With the Republican presidential nomination locked up and his Democratic foes in a headline-hogging battle, John McCain plans to re-introduce himself.
In coming weeks, the U.S. senator from Arizona is opening a new strategy providing what his campaign hopes will be a contrast to the brawling Democrats, a time to reunify the GOP, to show more about the real John McCain and embark on his first trip abroad as the party's presidential nominee to meet world leaders.
"There will undoubtedly be more attention paid to Sen. (Barack ) Obama and Sen. (Hillary) Clinton," McCain told CNN. But, he said, their fight would give him time to shore up his base of support and unite the Republican Party.
First stop will be New Hampshire for a town hall meeting in the state that propelled his comeback. Later this month he heads for Europe to meet with allies and leaders of key countries and on to the Middle East, a journey aimed at highlighting his foreign policy experience.
Once back in the United States, McCain heads out on a U.S. tour to highlight details of what campaign leaders call an inspiring, remarkable life story.
