Officers arrest 14 escaped al-Aqsa inmates

NABLUS, West Bank, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Fourteen al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades militants who escaped from a West Bank prison turned themselves in to the Palestinian Authority Friday, a report said.

The prisoners gave themselves up after discussing negotiations with security officers, Palestinian officials said.

The inmates, who are wanted by the Israeli Defense Forces, claimed they broke out of the prison in Nablus "to protest the prison administration not living up to agreements," The Jerusalem Post reported Friday.

Israeli officials reportedly said the escape showed Palestinian National Authority's inability to combat terrorist activity.
