Israel bombs suspected rocket sites

GAZA, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- The Israeli army's engineering corps Thursday bombed abandoned Gaza Strip buildings the military claimed were being used to launch rockets at Israel.

The operation began Wednesday with searches near the Palestinian side of the Erez Crossing, Haaretz reported.

Military personnel also searched the area Thursday for structures believed to be used by militants in bombing attacks against Israel.

Officials said no one was injured after four Qassam rockets were fired at Israel by midmorning Thursday, Haaretz said.

Israeli officials said Qassam rocket Wednesday struck a home in Sderot. The house, which was empty, was damaged but no one was injured.

Four rockets and four mortar shells were fired Wednesday at Israel, officials said. Most fell in Palestinian territory and caused no injuries.

Also Wednesday, an Israeli armored corps battalion moved through Negev and struck a terrorist cell Israeli officials said was preparing to launch anti-tank missiles in the soldiers' direction. No injuries were reported in the incident.
