IRVINGTON, N.J., Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Police in New Jersey say they learned of a triple homicide when a 22-year-old man walked into a police station Wednesday and confessed to it.

The suspect appeared at a police precinct in Newark just after noon, the Star-Ledger of Newark reported. Officers said he was calm.

"I just killed three people," he said.

Police in neighboring Irvington found the bodies of a man and two women in a second-floor apartment. All three had been stabbed.

The 22-year-old said the killings occurred Tuesday night.

The identities of the victims had not been released Wednesday afternoon, pending notification of their families. The 22-year-old, whose name was also not released, was arrested.

The owner of the building where the bodies were found told the Star-Ledger he had rented the apartment recently to a couple and their adult daughter.
