PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Philadelphia's Temple University reached its $285 million goal in a fundraising campaign after getting $5 million from an anonymous donor, a report said.

The donation came in the form of two cashiers checks, one for $4 million and another for $1 million in regular envelopes, the Philadelphia Daily News reported.

"It's not unusual for donors to want to remain anonymous and it's not unusual to receive large checks like this," Temple Vice President Stuart Sullivan said, "It is completely unusual not to receive prior notice from the donors, or representatives of the donors."

The only request the donor reportedly made was that Temple let he or she know, through the Wells Fargo bank official in Arizona who handled the checks, how the money was being used.

The donor asked that $4 million be used toward scholarships for minority and female students, the newspaper said.
