Arthur Webster Jr., who also uses the name Jerry Starr, was the first person to be found guilty on federal sex trafficking charges in the District of Alaska, the U.S. Department of Justice said. Jurors, after 11 days of testimony, convicted him late Tuesday on a long list of charges.
Prosecutors presented evidence that Webster recruited women in difficult circumstances, some homeless, some runaways and some working for low wages, for his escort services. The services, with names like "Foxy Roxies," "American Beauties," "Tickle Your Fancy" and "Lickety Split," promised female companionship but provided sex.
One witness testified that she was only 13 when Webster first recruited her. The women described living in houses with strict rules, including no visitors.
They said they were required to hand over all their money and were usually paid in cocaine. They could not buy anything without his permission and had to provide receipts.
