Though rival Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., was racking up many state victories, by the evening hours on Super Tuesday Huckabee could claim three -- West Virginia, Alabama and Arkansas -- to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's two -- Utah and Massachusetts.
Huckabee was dismissive of Romney. "A lot of people been saying this is a two-man race," he said. "well, it is and we're in it."
In a biblical reference to David, the religiously conservative Huckabee said, "This just shows that sometimes, one small, smooth stone is even more effective than a whole lot of armor."
He also said ultimate victory -- the Republican nomination -- was not out of the question. "We're still on our feet, and much to the amazement of many, we're getting there," he said.
