Palestinian militant killed after bombing

JERUSALEM, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Israeli forces killed a senior Palestinian militant Monday using a car bomb in the hours following a suicide bombing in the Israeli city of Dimona.

Palestinian sources identified the body of the Salah al-Din Brigades' commander Abu Sa'ad who reportedly died from injuries sustained in an Israeli-planted car bomb in northern Gaza, Ynetnews said Monday.

The attack followed a suicide bomb attack in Dimona that killed one woman and injured 11 other people Monday. Police also foiled a bomb-packed accomplice.

In the melee after the blast, a police officer shot down a second man found also to be wearing a belt laden with explosives, Ynetnews said earlier Monday.

Israeli security officials suspect "considerable amounts" of weaponry were smuggled into Gaza since Palestinian militants knocked down border fences into Egypt in late January.

The report also said four Qassam rockets hit southern Israel Monday morning, though there were no reports of injuries or damage.
