NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- A man was killed when hit by a float he had just climbed off after the annual Krewe of Endymion parade in New Orleans.

The man died Saturday night after being struck by a rear section of the float after he'd gotten off without the consent of the driver, said Jonette Williams, spokeswoman for the New Orleans Police Department.

Williams added that the man was pronounced dead at the scene, The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported.

The incident occurred near the Superdome after the Endymion parade was over.

No charges had been filed and an autopsy will be conducted by the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office to determine the exact cause of death, said Williams.
