BANGKOK, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- The head of the Thai intellectual property department said Saturday she hopes to convince the United States that Thailand has improved its record on piracy.

Puangrat Aswapisit told reporters that Thailand will submit evidence by Feb. 15 in an effort to move off the U.S. priority watch list, the Thai News Agency reported.

Thailand was placed on the priority list from the watch list in 2007. U.S. officials said that Thailand had arrested only a few major violators of U.S. copyrights and trademarks.

Puangrat would not comment when asked about rumors that the United States plans to downgrade Thailand even more. If Thailand was listed as a "priority foreign country," the United States might impose economic sanctions.
