UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- The U.N. Security Council condemned the firing of two Katyusha rockets from southern Lebanon into Israel.

The Security Council, newly led by Libyan Ambassador Giadalla Ettalhi, condemned Tuesday's attack after Israel put pressure on the body to issue a statement, Ynetnews reported Friday.

Haaretz reported that Ettalhi spent two days attempting to include criticism of Israel air force violations of Lebanon airspace in the condemnation but failed amid opposition from Israel, the United States and France.

"It's crucial the Security Council condemn such acts," said Gilad Cohen, the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations. "It was a grave violation of U.N. resolution 1701 and a threat to world peace and security."

The rockets landed in Israel's western Galilee region, Ynet said. No injuries or property damage were reported as a result of the attack.

A previously unknown Islamic group, "Bader Battalions of Jihad -- the Lebanese Chapter," claimed responsibility for the attack.
