MANCHESTER, England, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- A 45-year-old Manchester, England, man allegedly sent small bottles of vodka filled with poison to British officials in an attempt to run them out of Scotland.

A court in England heard Monday that Wayne Cook also allegedly threatened to kill English people "with no hesitation or compunction" by poisoning the country's water supply, the Edinburgh Evening News reported.

Cook has been charged with two counts of using noxious substances or things to cause harm and intimidate, under the Anti-terrorism, Crime and Security Act of 2001.

He is accused of sending miniature bottles of vodka filled with caustic soda to Councilor John Wright and Scottish journalist Myra Philp as part of plan by the Scottish National Liberation Army to clear the British government out of Scotland.

Prosecuting attorney Paul Taylor, said the caustic soda was concentrated enough to kill the recipients if it had been consumed.

The trial is set to continue Tuesday.
