STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- A 2,800-soldier Swedish-led force won't be ready for deployment Tuesday to global hot spots, including Africa, as planned because of several setbacks.

Manpower and equipment shortages, including delivery of medical transport helicopters, vehicles and soldier gear, have delayed the Nordic Battlegroup's readiness, The Local said.

"There's quite a bit missing. We can operate with what we have now but not in the same way that we could if we had all of our equipment," said squad leader Rickard Lundin, The Local reported.

The force originally was to be sent to Chad or Sudan but plans are now uncertain, The Local said.
