ATLANTA, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- A man who was recently exonerated after 14 years of wrongful imprisonment has married his longtime girlfriend in Atlanta.
Ronald Taylor, who was released from prison in October after DNA evidence cleared him of a 1993 Houston rape, wed Jeannette Brown, his girlfriend of more than 20 years, Sunday at the bride's brother's home, the Houston Chronicle reported Monday.
"This day has been a long, long time coming," Taylor said. "Jeannette, she has been loyal to me throughout all of this, and I want to make her happy. That is what I want to do with my freedom."
Taylor was sentenced to 60 years in prison after he was convicted of raping a woman at knifepoint. The only evidence that supported the prosecution was the victim's identification of Taylor as the rapist from a police lineup.
"I always knew that someday the truth would be known and he would be set free," Brown said. "My faith never wavered."
