ALBANY, N.Y., Dec. 17 (UPI) -- The recent unsupervised dorm boxing match death of a student at a New York university has led to scrutiny of underground boxing at the University at Albany.
The Dec. 2 death of a student involved in an unsupervised boxing match at a Binghamton University dormitory has led officials at the University of Albany, where underground boxing matches have been documented and posted on YouTube, to send a mass e-mail reminding students that unsanctioned boxing is "strictly prohibited," the Albany (N.Y.) Times-Union reported Monday.
School spokesman Karl Luntta said officials are investigating the YouTube video, which is believed to have been filmed at least a year ago in one of the university's on-campus residence halls.
Luntta told the Times-Union he doesn't believe the videotaped fight represents a trend. He said the university had no reports of unsanctioned boxing matches before the recording came to light.
