KABUL, Afghanistan, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- U.S.-led coalition forces in Afghanistan reportedly killed several militants in the violence-hit southern Helmand province, the military said Thursday.

Seven other militants were detained after the clashes Wednesday, Xinhua reported the military as saying.

The statement didn't say how many militants were killed.

The clashes occurred in the Garmser district compounds, where the coalition forces encountered armed militants in several buildings.

The military said the militants were "killed by accurate, conventional munitions." The precision munitions were also used to kill several other militants "who were attempting to use a tree line outside one of the compounds as cover to engage coalition forces."

The report said intelligence sources indicated the seven detained men likely have connection with a foreign fighter.

The coalition forces also recovered several weapons and associated ammunition which were destroyed, the military said.
