WARSAW, Poland, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Poland’s early parliamentary polls may delay Warsaw-Washington talks on deployment of a U.S. missile shield in Eastern Europe, Polish Radio said Monday.

U.S. Ambassador to Poland Daniel Fried was quoted by the national radio as saying negotiations on the anti-missile system might be put off until after the Oct. 21 general elections and a new parliament and government are installed.

Fried said the talks on stationing a U.S. 10 interceptor missiles base on Polish soil as part of the Eastern European anti-missile system with a radar site in neighboring Czech Republic could be postponed until next year.

Witold Waszczykowski, deputy Polish Interior minister told reporters Warsaw wouldn't try to speed up negotiations as to complete a missile base deal before the Oct. 21 elections, the radio said.
