WARSAW, Poland, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Polish border guards detained 30 illegal migrants after the guards stopped a Lithuanian truck at the border with Germany, Polish Radio said Thursday.

Lt. Col. Andrzej Kaminski of the border guard in Lunuskie said the group, whose nationality he did not disclose, included men and women, and five children ages 2 to 5.

All the migrants were extremely exhausted due to heat in the truck, and further traveling under such conditions could have been fatal, the radio said.

Two Lithuanian drivers could face 8 years in jail each for trying to take illegal migrants across the border into Germany, while the migrants are likely to be returned to their country of origin.

Kaminski said his border guard officers were investigating how the migrants got in touch with the Lithuanian drivers and how much they paid for the illegal border crossing.
