WARSAW, Poland, Aug. 8 (UPI) --
Poland's prime minister has sacked Interior Minister Jacek Kaczmarek over alleged illegal land deals, further rocking the ruling coalition government.
Polish Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski dismissed Kaczmarek on suspicion he was linked with the illegal deal that has been investigated by the national anti-corruption bureau, Polish Radio reported Wednesday.
Kaczynski was referring to the anti-corruption bureau's investigation that already led to the sacking of Andrzej Lepper as a deputy prime minister and agriculture minister in mid-July.
Kaczmarek, appointed interior minister only in February, will be replaced by Wladyslaw Stasiak, former head of the National Security Bureau. Kaczynski described Stasiak as a highly competent and honest man, the radio said.
An early parliamentary election is almost certain amid the collapsing government coalition.
Lepper's Self Defense junior coalition member party Sunday decided to quit the coalition and pull out its ministers from the government.
If Kaczynski's Law and Justice party is left without sufficient support of deputies in parliament, Poland will have to call early elections.© 2007 United Press International. All Rights Reserved.
