Israeli officers said the man attempted to flee after soldiers checking his identity card recognized him as a wanted suspect, The Jerusalem Post reported Thursday.

The report said Israeli troops fired warning shots before wounding the suspect, who was treated at the scene and taken to an Israeli hospital.

The arrest followed a confrontation Thursday between Israeli soldiers and an armed Palestinian at the Birazit Checkpoint near Ramallah. The armed man was killed after he reportedly attacked an Israeli soldier.
