LAS VEGAS, July 7 (UPI) -- Some fans of Las Vegas say a shooting in a crowded casino won't stop them from returning to the desert city of glamour, glitz and gambling.

Steve Zegrean, 51, of Las Vegas was tackled and arrested Friday after wounding four people at the casino New York-New York.

Paul Landry, 42, of Yarmouth, Maine, is among Las Vegas fans who say the shooting was a random event and the casinos are safe, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Saturday.

Ditto Ron Vanio, 41, of Cleveland, who plans to visit Las Vegas again next year, suggested resort operators could do more to prevent people from sneaking guns into casinos. "I think metal detectors might be a good idea," said Vanio.

Officials at MGM Mirage (NYSE:MGM), which owns both New York-New York and the Luxor, said Las Vegas resorts are among the world's most secure tourist destinations.

"It is very difficult to protect against a disturbed individual willing to sacrifice himself," said MGM spokesman Gordon Absher.
