Investigators had already reported that Jane Radostits, a senior prosecutor in DuPage County outside Chicago, had a blood alcohol level of .25 at the time of her death, The Chicago Tribune reported.
Radostits was with a group of colleagues at a restaurant in Oak Brook for several hours on Friday, May 11. Their office had been evacuated by a bomb threat.
She reportedly had several drinks at the restaurant.
In mid-afternoon, one of the group drove the others back to the office, and she picked up her county-owned car. About 15 minutes later, she veered into oncoming traffic in Winfield, sideswiped one sport utility vehicle and collided head-on with another. Police said she was driving 85 mph.
"Words cannot express all of the emotions I am going through these last few weeks or my feelings upon reading this report," said State's Attorney Joseph Birkett. "Jane suffered a terrible death in an otherwise remarkable career. My heart is broken."
