JERUSALEM, March 19 (UPI) -- The Israeli government on Monday officially declared that its conflict last summer in Lebanon was a "war."

Minister for Jerusalem Affairs Ya'acov Edri told The Jerusalem Post the government now will decide on a name for the war. He told the newspaper he favors the name "The War to Return the Captives" in honor of reservists Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser.

The Interministerial Committee on Symbols and Ceremonies is considering several other names, including "Operation Peace of the Galilee 2" and "The Northern War," the newspaper reported.

The government initially did not declare the conflict a war because of economic considerations, the Post reported. Parents of soldiers killed during the conflict accused the government of failing to honor their children by not naming the conflict.
