MIAMI, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- The 27th tropical storm of the year, Zeta, was in the eastern Atlantic Ocean Saturday, moving west near 5 mph with 60 mph winds.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami reported at 11 a.m. the eye of the storm was 1,060 miles southwest of the Azores.

Zeta is expected to continue west for the next 24 hours while it weakens.

The 2005 storm and hurricane season -- officially ending Nov. 30 -- was a record breaker, including 14 hurricanes.

Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the Gulf Coast in late August, is expected to be the costliest in U.S. history.
