INDIANAPOLIS, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- A restaurant worker has been charged with abducting and killing a 12-year-old girl who lived in the same Indianapolis apartment complex.

Jeffrey Voss led police to the creek where he dumped Christina Tedder's body, the Indianapolis Star reported. He reportedly told police that he gave Cristina a lift and took her to a house where he was living temporarily after he accidentally hit her in the eye because he feared her parents would be angry.

The girl vanished just before Christmas, leaving her apartment to walk to a gas station nearby. Voss's brother, Brian, was among the volunteers searching for her.

The Star said that Voss has a history of imprisonments for armed robbery. He was released in 2002 after serving 12 years of a 30-year sentence during which he earned a college degree.
