WASHINGTON, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- The State Department confirmed Thursday China has arrested an U.S. citizen David Long Fen Ji.

"Consular officials in Chengdu (China) requested and were allowed consular access to this U.S. citizen," the department said.

Ji is the co-founder and chairman of troubled US electronics distributor Apex Digital Inc. Earlier this week, China's top television maker, Sichuan Changhong Electric Appliance Co. Ltd., said it was heading for a big loss in 2004, due partly to $467.5 million owed by Apex.

The State Department said it does not have permission from Ji to reveal more information about his case.
