CARACAS, Venezuela, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez will travel to Colombia next week to meet with his counterpart Alvaro Uribe, El Universal newspaper reported Thursday.

Among the issues on the agenda will be the construction of a gas pipeline between the two countries and security along their shared border.

Venezuela wants to secure its jungle border with neighboring Colombia following a September attack by unknown gunmen who killed six Venezuelan soldiers and an engineer for a state oil company.

Colombia's left-wing rebel groups and right-wing paramilitaries have been known to frequent the border area and sometimes cross into Venezuela.

Venezuela announced in October it would receive in July the first batch of 33 Russian helicopters it ordered to improve security along the border.
