AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- The main suspect in the Amsterdam slaying of Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh has links to a radical Islamic terrorist group, the BBC reported Thursday.

Identified by police only as Mohammed B., the 26-year-old man with dual Dutch and Moroccan citizenship had "radical Islamic fundamentalist convictions," Justice Minister Piet Hein Donner said.

Wednesday, police arrested another eight men suspected of being involved with van Gogh's murder by gunshot and stabbing. Six are Moroccan, one is Algerian and one has joint Moroccan-Spanish nationality.

Two knives were left in van Gogh's body, one pinning a note in his chest containing verses from the Koran.

Van Gogh, 47, was related to the famous Dutch painter. He had received death threats after Dutch television aired his documentary film "Submission," which portrayed violence against women in Islamic societies.
