Finland edges U.S. in World Hockey

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia, May 11 (UPI) -- Finland scored a controversial goal Sunday en route to a 3-2 victory over Team USA in the World Hockey Championships at Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The goal -- Finland's first of three in the third period -- was counted even though replays showed the puck entered the side of the net. Officials later said the video judge was removed from the tournament.

Teemu Selanne scored a goal and added an assist for Finland, which came from two goals behind to win the preliminary-round game.

Phil Kessel and Tom Gilbert got the U.S. goals.

In other games in Nova Scotia, Sweden topped the Czech Republic 5-3 and Latvia beat Norway 4-1.

At Quebec City, Switzerland routed Denmark 7-2.
