No. 3-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova advanced with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Catalina Castano. Her next opponent is 15th-seeded Alona Bondarenko, who defeated Anabel Medina Garrigues 7-5, 0-6, 6-3.

Sixth-seeded Anna Chakvetadze and No. 16 Nadia Petrova were the only seeded players to fall Wednesday. Chakvetadze lost 1-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 to Victoria Azarenka and Maria Kirilenko beat Petrova 6-3, 6-3.

Other second-round matches saw fourth-seeded Jelena Jankovic stop Shuai Peng 7-5, 6-0; 10th-seeded Agnes Szavay drop Zi Yan 6-1, 6-1; and 11th-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska rip Angelika Bachman 6-1, 6-1.

Also Wednesday, Gisela Dulko downed Caroline Wozniacki 6-2, 7-5 and Vera Dushevina ousted Alisa Kleybanova 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
