MLB: Cincinnati 5, Chicago Cubs 3

CINCINNATI, May 5 (UPI) -- Rookie Cincinnati right-hander Johnny Cueto kept the Chicago Cubs at bay Monday and the Reds survived a late scare for a 5-3 victory.

Cueto (2-3) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out eight over six innings. Francisco Cordero overcame a shaky ninth inning for his fifth save of the season.

Adam Dunn hit a two-run homer and Jeff Keppinger drove in two runs for the Reds, who ended a five-game losing streak.

Ryan Dempster (4-1) gave up five unearned runs on four hits and struck out seven in six innings to suffered the loss for Chicago, which has lost eight of its last 11 games.

Geovany Soto wen 3-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI and Ryan Theriot went 2-for-4 with a double and a run batted in for the Cubs.
