DENVER, March 29 (UPI) -- Milan Hejduk scored the deciding goal in the shootout Friday, giving the Colorado Avalanche a 5-4 win over Edmonton.

Joe Sakic scored with just six seconds left in the third period to force overtime and keep Colorado hot heading for the playoffs. Colorado won at home for the eighth time in nine games and moved into a tie with Dallas and Calgary for fifth place in the Western Conference. The Avalanche also stayed within three points of first-place Minnesota in the Northwest Division.

Colorado scored on all three shots in the shootout, getting goals from Wojtek Wolski and Sakic before Hejduk clinched the victory.

Before giving up three goals in the shootout, Dwayne Roloson allowed four goals on 36 shots in regulation.

Colorado let an early two-goal lead slip away and then twice rallied from a goal down to get into overtime.
