PITTSBURGH, March 28 (UPI) -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Cedrick Wilson has been ordered to undergo an eight-week anger management program.

The order was handed down on Friday by Hampton Township District Judge Regis Welsh Jr.

Wilson was released March 20 shortly after he was charged with assaulting his estranged girlfriend at a suburban Pittsburgh restaurant.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported that Welsh could dismiss or reduce charges of harassment, simple assault and disorderly conduct or hold the 29-year-old Wilson for trial.

The March incident was the second between the couple involving law enforcement.

On Jan. 19, an argument between the couple led to a 12-hour standoff between police and his girlfriend, Lindsey Paulat, 26, at Wilson's home in Pine.

"I'm very apologetic," Wilson said shortly after he was arrested. "I hold myself to a higher standard than that. I just want to apologize to Lindsey, her family, the NFL family and the Pittsburgh Steeler nation. I let them down."
