McGrady claimed the Western Conference honor and Richardson was given the award for the Eastern Conference for performances the week of March 3-9.
McGrady led the Rockets to a 3-0 week. He averaged 32.3 points, 7.7 assists and 5 rebounds a game last week. He had 41 points in a 106-96 win over New Orleans that ran the Houston winning streak to 18 games, the fourth-longest in NBA history.
Charlotte went 4-0 last week as Richardson averaged 28.5 points, 3 assists, 6.5 rebounds 1.8 steals a game. He had a franchise-tying record 42 points during a game against Golden State last Wednesday. The Bobcats' current five-game winning streak is a franchise record.
Other players considered for NBA player of the week honors are: Boston's Kevin Garnett and Kendrick Perkins; Cleveland's LeBron James; Detroit's Tayshaun Prince; Golden State's Baron Davis; New Orleans' Chris Paul; Philadelphia's Samuel Dalembert; Portland's Brandon Roy; and Utah's Deron Williams.
