LONDON, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- British soccer star David Beckham flew Friday to Los Angeles after he wasn't picked for the English squad that will face Switzerland next Wednesday.

A report by The Mirror said he left flew to the United States on the orders of LA Galaxy Coach Ruud Gullit.

"He felt obliged to honor his club commitments after being released from international duty," Beckham's spokesman told the Mirror. "The LA Galaxy preseason training starts today and David has to be there."

Beckham was supposed to appear at his annual charity event for cystic fibrosis but recorded a video message before he left England.

England's new coach, Fabio Capello, left Beckham off his initial squad saying he wasn't "match-fit."

Beckham hasn't played a match since November but said he was "determined" to bounce back.
