BUFFALO, N.Y., Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Reports Sunday said Marv Levy will step down this week from his post as general manager of the NFL's Buffalo Bills.

WVIB-TV in Buffalo and ESPN said the 82-year-old hall of fame coach reached a mutual decision with team officials after several internal discussions within the Bills organization. The reports did not specify when he would leave.

Levy's decision follows a season-ending 17-9 loss at Philadelphia.

He coached Buffalo for 11-plus seasons before retiring following the 1997 season. He guided the Bills to a 112-70 record to become the franchise's winningest coach.

The team qualified for an unmatched four consecutive Super Bowl appearances in the 1990s, all losing efforts.

The television report said the long hours required for the GM position were wearing on Levy, and the feeling was he had done what he needed to do in his return.

The Bills failed to qualify for the post-season for the eighth straight year, the longest drought in franchise history.
