DETROIT, Dec. 20 (UPI) --
Dontrelle Willis, obtained by Detroit from Florida earlier this month, signed a three-year deal with the Tigers Thursday.
The contract extension through 2010 is worth a reported $29 million.
"We are excited to sign an all-star caliber pitcher like Dontrelle to a long-term deal," Tigers General Manager David Dombrowski said. "He continues to be one of the top young pitchers in the game and we look forward to having him be part of the Tigers organization for years to come."
Willis was part of an eight-player deal pulled off during the winter meetings. Third baseman Miguel Cabrera also came to Detroit in the trade.
Willis, 25, was the NL Rookie of the Year in 2003. But he was just 10-15 with a 5.17 ERA last season.© 2007 United Press International. All Rights Reserved.
