Paul Pierce collected 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists and McCarty added 16 and seven rebounds for the Celtics, who were blown out by the Los Angeles Lakers Sunday, 105-82.
In this one, Boston held an 83-65 lead before Golden State scored the final basket of the third quarter and carried its momentum into the fourth. They held the Celtics without a bucket for the first 5:16 and pulled within 89-87 on a 3-pointer by Nick Van Exel with 3:26 left.
But after a timeout, the Celtics looked for McCarty, and the league's sixth-most accurate 3-point shooter nailed a shot from the arc with 3:13 to play.
Former Warrior Jiri Welsch had 15 points and a season-high eight rebounds for the Celtics, who were out-rebounded, 53-43, but nailed 10-of-21 3-pointers while Golden State made just 3-of-16. McCarty was 4-of-6 from the arc and Welsch 3-of-5.
