Published: March 27, 2008 at 11:59 AM

WASHINGTON, March 27 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced more companies have joined in the recall of Honduran-produced cantaloupes due to possible contamination.

Tropifresh Inc. of Los Angeles and Kovacevich International Inc. of Philadelphia are recalling cantaloupes distributed by Agropecuaria Montelibano, a Honduran grower and packer, under several brand names, including "Mike's Melons" and "Agrolibano's Produce." The FDA said the cantaloupes might be contaminated with salmonella.

Tropifresh whole cantaloupes were distributed to wholesalers in Southern California, Pennsylvania and Canada. The recalled Kovacevich cantaloupes were sold by wholesalers and retail stores in Georgia, Florida, Massachusetts and New Jersey.

Consumers can return recalled Agrolibano's-brand cantaloupes to the place of purchase or contact the company at 213-745-8111. Consumers can contact Kovacevich International at 215-336-3160.
