WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 (UPI) --
The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall of 188,000 pounds of ground beef products due to possible contamination.
The FSIS said the Rochester Meat Co. of Rochester, Minn., initiated the voluntary recall after it was determined the ground beef might be contaminated with an E. coli bacterium. The problem was discovered after five illnesses were reported in Wisconsin and one in California.
The ground beef products were distributed nationwide to restaurants and food service institutions and weren't available for purchase in retail establishments.
