Jupiter rocket eyed by space enthusiasts
The team, comprised of soldiers from the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, arrived at the landmark Wednesday, becoming the first British military members to explore the pole since Walter Scott in 1912, The Times of London reported Thursday.
"As I stood at the South Pole I was unable to contain the overwhelming feeling of relief and my eyes filled with tears," Royal Marines Capt. Sean Chapple told the newspaper.
The team plans a service Saturday for all people who have perished while attempting to reach and explore the pole. The team will then begin its trek back to its base.
