EVANSTON, Ill., May 29 (UPI) -- Police at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., said a thief or thieves stole an Xbox 360 gaming system and replaced it with the earlier Xbox model.

Assistant Chief Dan McAleer of the University Police said the popular video game system was taken from the hall government of Foster-Walker Complex at some point between May 11, when the Xbox 360 was locked in a residence hall basement closet, and May 22, when the student who locked the item up returned to the closet and found it missing, The Daily Northwestern reported Thursday.

The student found an older model Xbox in place of the more recent technology, police said.

Police said the student told them only one other hall government officer has access to the closet.
