CLEVES, Ohio, May 20 (UPI) -- A Cleves, Ohio, man whose wife is accused of firing a rifle at him has asked a court to be lenient with her.
Scott Williams said in a signed affidavit that his wife, Barbara, pulled a .22-caliber rifle on him while he was preparing for a shower Saturday morning and fired a shot, missing him, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
"I'll kill you," Scott Williams quoted his wife as saying in the affidavit. "I hid behind the wall (and) then she left the room and I locked the door."
However, Williams now says his wife -- who was charged with felonious assault, domestic violence and using a weapon while intoxicated -- is not as dangerous as the incident made her seem.
"This just got totally blown out of proportion," he said, "and I'd like to see her be able to come home."
"She's a good wife," he said.
Barbara Williams' bail was set Monday at $100,000.
Elderly couple allegedly stole kid's bike
MILWAUKEE, May 20 (UPI) -- An elderly Milwaukee couple was cited for theft for taking a bike from a rummage sale, claiming they thought it was included in an $11 purchase, officials said.
A man, 68, and his wife, 61, were at a park with their granddaughter Saturday when police approached them about the bike the girl was riding, police said.
The couple said the Treck bike was sold to them from a rummage sale at Grace Lutheran Church, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported. It is reported the hot item was grouped with several bikes the minister was planning to bless that day.
The bike was recovered after a 40-year-old father told police he saw an elderly couple put his daughter's bike in their car and take off.
When the confused couple was found at the park with their granddaughter riding the bike, police issued them a ticket for theft.
Swarms of bees invade New York
NEW YORK, May 20 (UPI) -- Two large swarms of bees have caused a buzz in New York, with experts saying it is proof the city may be invaded by the flying pests in coming months.
"We are seeing more colonies surviving in the wild and surviving well enough that they swarm. Things are getting better for bees," said James Fischer, volunteer beekeeper for the Bronx Zoo.
Fischer said he's had legitimate reports of two swarms of bees in New York's Manhattan borough this spring, the New York Post reported.
It is reported the first swarm halted traffic when it flew to a newspaper container May 7, while the second swarm of about 15,000 bees was seen Thursday near a tree.
Large dark clouds of drones may appear threatening, but they are "harmless" right now because the bees are working intently to find a place to live, Fischer said.
UFO network cannot confirm Texas incident
STEPHENVILLE, Texas, May 20 (UPI) -- The Texas chapter of the Mutual UFO Network says it has been unable to confirm sightings around the town of Stephenville, despite multiple witnesses.
Ken Cherry, director of the Texas chapter of the group that tracks unidentified flying objects, said what was thought to be the strongest piece of evidence for a UFO visitation above Stephenville in January, a 12-minute video, has been revealed as a zoomed-in video of a star, the Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram reported.
"We're probably going to get a lot of flak for that," Cherry said.
Steve Hudgeons, the head Texas investigator for the network, said there were a number of credible witnesses to the Jan. 8 event, including a pilot, a county constable, city officials, business owners, clergy and teachers "and a full conglomerate of others."
However, Cherry said the group's final full report on the incident is not likely to bring any closure to interested parties.
"It will not satisfy the believers or the debunkers," Cherry said.
