TOLEDO, Iowa, May 17 (UPI) -- A 47-year-old man has pleaded guilty to stealing a donut delivery van in Illinois and initiating a police chase through Tama County, Iowa, authorities say.

Police had charged Frank Alvrado with stealing a delivery van from Donut Delight Delivery of Moline, Ill., on March 20 and using the vehicle to elude police until he was caught in Toledo, Iowa, The Des Moines Register said Saturday.

While the donut-related theft initially earned Alvrado charges of first-degree theft and eluding a law enforcement vehicle, this week's guilty plea was on aggravated misdemeanor charges.

Under the lesser charges, Alvrado received two years of probation and to pay the donut shop $1,375 in restitution. The Tama County Sheriff will also receive $1,939 from Alvrado for damage done to a patrol car during the chase.

No motive was given for Alvrado's sudden donut craving.
