Yves Rossy, 48, jumped out of a plane Wednesday above Bex, Switzerland, with his creation, an 8-foot carbon wing powered by a series of jets. He spent more than 5 minutes flying through the air at 8,200 feet, The Telegraph reported Thursday.
"This flight was excellent," he said after landing with the help of a parachute. "It's like a second skin. If I turn to the left, I fly left. If I nudge to the right, I go right."
The self-styled "Rocket Man" said his next goal is to fly across the English Channel with his jet wing, The Telegraph reported.
