Family gathered Tuesday at the Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery for the burial and said they were horrified to see a tombstone at the woman's site with a living man's name on it, The Gazette newspaper said.
The deceased woman, Gwendoline Kirton, 93, bought the plot from the Feron's Funeral Home in 1999. Cemetery officials said because of confusion when records were computerized, it was sold again in 2005 to the unidentified man -- whose tombstone awaits a date of death -- the newspaper reported.
The woman's casket was taken from the cemetery Tuesday and returned to cold storage, where it's been since December, as the cemetery doesn't allow burials in icy winter conditions for the safety of family and friends, the report said.
Negotiations were reportedly under way among the funeral home, the living owner and the cemetery, the newspaper said.
