SAN FRANCISCO, May 1 (UPI) -- A review of registered pets in the San Francisco Bay Area has found Buddy is the area's most popular dog name, with 518 canines bearing the moniker.

The review found 504 area canines are named Max, making it the second most popular name; and 494 have the third most popular name, Lucky, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Thursday.

Other popular names include Lucy, 353; Daisy, 344; Rocky, 303; and Molly, 296.

Meanwhile, the Chronicle said the most popular name for cats is Tiger, the name of 85 area felines. The review found 72 cats named Smokey, 60 cats named Tigger, 56 named Shadow, 49 named Max and 49 named Princess.

Forty-seven cat owners were found to have shunned creativity by naming their cats Kitty.
