MUMBAI, April 23 (UPI) -- Police in India said they have arrested a man suspected of stealing more than 100 specimens from a sperm bank.

Investigators said Anil Punjaba Mohite attempted to sell the samples, which were taken from a Cryobank laboratory in Aurangabad, to sperm banks in Mumbai, The Times of India reported Wednesday.

"Anil Mohite turned out to be a close relative of Sunil Mohite, a Cryobank laboratory worker at Aurangabad who has been detained for interrogation," said P.S. Bolkar, a police officer investigating the case.

"It is a very different sort of theft case," he said.

Mumbai infertility experts expressed surprise that someone would attempt to sell sperm samples.

"Which doctor in Mumbai would want to buy the sperm samples? Most infertility clinics have their own sperm banks," said Dr. Aniruddha Malpani.

"Why would someone rob a commodity that is so hard to sell?" asked Dr. Aniruddha Malpani.

Drunk driving suspect flees into sewer

FINDLAY, Ohio, April 23 (UPI) -- Police in Findlay, Ohio, said a drunken driving suspect fled into the sewers after his car collided with a school bus.

Officers said Chad Nye, 28, was arrested Friday after a three-block chase below ground followed by another three block chase once he emerged from the sewer, the Toledo (Ohio) Blade reported Wednesday.

"That is the first storm sewer chase we ever had, that's for sure," said Sgt. David Hill, one of the officers involved in the chase.

Investigators said Nye may have been traveling 45 to 50 mph in the 25 mph zone when he crashed into the school bus. The driver of the bus, William Hooks, 60, was cited for failure to yield after he stopped at a stop sign and continued into the intersection where the bus was hit.

Nye was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, failure to comply with police, driving under suspension, leaving the scene of an injury accident, obstruction of official business, and having an open container of alcohol. He was taken to the Hancock County jail after receiving treatment at Blanchard Valley Hospital.

Two students riding on the bus were also treated for minor injuries.

UNC mascot retired after losing horn

CHAPEL HILL, N.C., April 23 (UPI) -- Rameses XVII, a ram that has served as the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, mascot for five seasons, has been retired after breaking a horn.

The ram's keeper said Rameses lost his horn after a head-butt from his son, Pablo, who will take his father's place as Rameses XVIII, The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C., reported Wednesday.

"I didn't think he was going to live," said Rob Hogan, who keeps the rams on his farm outside Carrboro, N.C. "He went off food and water for a week."

Hogan said the confrontation between father and son was likely not malicious, as rams commonly share the same grazing pastures in peace, only head butting one another for the sport of it.

"I guess they were just tusslin'," Hogan told The News & Observer.

He said the elder Rameses will live the rest of his life in peace on the farm.

11 students suspended for banana prank

ZION, Ill., April 23 (UPI) -- A Zion, Ill., high school has suspended 11 seniors involved in a prank that featured a student in a gorilla costume chasing banana-clad seniors in the hallways.

Zion-Benton Township High School handed seven-day suspensions to the costumed students, who phoned in sick before the stunt and wore pantyhose over their heads to conceal their identities during the prank, the Waukegan (Ill.) News-Sun reported Wednesday.

Some of the students said the school overreacted with the harsh punishment.

"What's funnier than a gorilla chasing bananas through a school? Nothing," said Andrew Leinonen, the prank's mastermind and the student who dressed as a gorilla. "It was a harmless prank."

However, others said they were just thankful the school decided not to bar them from prom and graduation.

"We think this is a just punishment," said Brendon Epker, one of the students who dressed as bananas. "We broke rules we shouldn't have broken."
