PALM BEACH, Fla., March 26 (UPI) -- Palm Beach, Fla., authorities say a man who tried to steal a car from a jail parking lot after his release was foiled by a stick shift and a gun-toting priest.
Authorities said Frank Singleton, fresh from his release after an early Tuesday morning arrest on a trespassing charge, attempted to steal a car from a woman in the jail parking lot only to find that the car had a manual transmission, which he can't drive, the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post reported Wednesday.
The woman screamed for help and Leo Krug, a priest who serves as sheriff's clergy, arrived with his gun and forced Singleton out of the car.
The arrest report said Singleton told a deputy he attempted to steal the car because he "didn't feel like walking" the six miles to his home. He was taken back inside the jail and charged with felony carjacking.
