Claim: Divorced women bring down morals

Published: March 20, 2008 at 11:08 AM
GONGZHULING, China, March 20 (UPI) -- A group of women were fired from a company in Gongzhuling, China, because they had been divorced, a report said Thursday.

A saleswoman known as Liang, 30, and numerous other divorced female employees were given the ax at the company on Sunday, China Daily reported. The women, reportedly enraged by the action, pleaded with a senior manager for answers about why they were let go.

"Although it's unfair for them, it's a rule that has been in place for the last 20 years," said a senior manager at the company.

The manager said his superior worried that divorced female workers would foster indecent behavior with other workers, which could harm the appearance of the company, China Daily reported.
